If you have installed Mac OSX Java Update 4 and clicking the Launch button opens a text file in a text editor instead of the application, please open a Terminal under Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and type or copy/paste the following command on one line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Afterwards, please try to re-launch the activity.

Application Controls
Alt-N (Windows, Linux), '+' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Start a new word for the non-sighted user. This operation
disables the timer, generates a new word, shows the dot pattern as text in
a text field, and gives focus to the text field so the field may be read by
screen readers.
Alt-A (Windows, Linux), '*' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Focus the answer field. After the screen reader has finished
reciting the dot pattern, the user presses Alt-A which shifts focus to the
text area where the user types their response. The user presses Enter in
this box to register their response.
Alt-S (Windows, Linux), '^' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Focus the text field to type in your own word.
Alt-C (Windows, Linux), '_' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Clear the text field to input your own word and continue generating random words from the dictionary.
Alt-W (Windows, Linux), '$' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Show the current word being quizzed in letters in a screen-readable text field and focus the field.
Alt-D (Windows, Linux), '%' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Show the dot pattern being quizzed in a screen-readable text area and focus the text area.
Alt-G (Windows, Linux), '&' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Focus the grade level text field. After focusing, enter '1' or 'u' for uncontracted and '2' or 'c' for contracted.
Alt-L (Windows, Linux), '#' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Focus the field to set the maximum word length of generated words.
Alt-Y (Windows, Linux), '<' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Load a custom settings file, including grade 1 dictionary, grade 2 dictionary, default grade level, and maximum word length from disk.
Alt-U (Windows, Linux), '>' (Windows, Linux, Mac): Save a custom settings file to disk. The location of this file is stored and the application attempts to load this file by default the next time the application is run.
Note to non-sighted user: Pressing Enter in the textfield where the user
types their guess for the word has the same effect of clicking the
