Brief Users Guide
These materials represent a complete copy of Volume 1: Rules of Braille Formats: Principles of Print to Braille Transcription. In addition to a search feature, all of the 19 rules are cross-linked and cross-referenced in several ways. The opening "Table of Contents" shows an expanded view of each rule. Each rule is cross-referenced with other rules. For example, if Rule 1 directs you to read another rule for further clarification, a link is provided to help you quickly find that reference. Once you have visited the reference site, use your "back" button to return to the original rule. Finally, the Index replicates the print index found in Volume 1, excluding print page numbers.
The built-in search tool can be used to identify those rules that contain specific words or phrases. The interface for performing searches should be self-explanatory. The search tool is not very sophisticated, but it will help the user to identify those rules that contain a specific word or phrase.
Some of the rules, especially Rule 18, have large numbers of graphics. Load times for these rules may be quite long. Please let us know if the load times are too long. If there is a general opinion that load times are too long, we may consider breaking some of these rules up into smaller files.
The Shodor Education Foundation and BANA hope that this electronic version of Braille Formats: Principles of Print to Braille Transcription is of value to you! Please let us know how we can make these materials more useful!
