Getting Started

For many of you, this will be your first experience taking a course on-line. We want to do all we can to help you adapt to using the internet for learning. We are confident that you will find the internet to be a useful and intuitive tool, once you have had a chance to familiarize yourself with its format and functions.

If you are a true beginner, you may want to skim through a formal internet tutorial like this one offered by Microsoft or a less formal one like this one offered by Netscape.

Internet Browsers

We recommend using either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer for interacting with this course.

You may:

Download the latest version of the Netscape Navigator software. Learn how to use it.

Download the latest version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer. Learn how to use it.

Email

In order to use email, you will need access to a mail server and email software. Access to a mail server is usually provided by your internet service provider. Contact them for information about setting up an account.

While a variety of email software will meet the needs of this course, you may find it most convenient to use the mail function imbedded in the Netscape browser.

Netscape provides instructions on how to configure Netscape to send and receive email.

Eudora Light, freeware from Qualcomm, is a popular mail program that will also meet the needs of this course.

You may download Eudora Light and its user manual.
