Radicals |
Simple Radicals:
When a radical has a vinculum, the radical signmust be placed before the radicand, and the termination indicatormust be placed after the radicand. However, the termination indicator must not be used when the radical sign occurs without a radicand, or when the vinculum is not shown in print.
The spacing before and after a radical is subject to the spacing rules for the signs preceding or following the radical. In addition, no space should be left between a radical and a letter, a numeral, a fraction, a sign of grouping, a braille indicator, or another radical when these items are unspaced in print and belong to the same expression.
When a radical has an index, the index-of-indicator and the index of the radical must precede the radical sign.
