  • Radicals

    Simple Radicals:

    1. When a radical has a vinculum, the radical signdots 3-4-5must be placed before the radicand, and the termination indicatordots 1-2-4-5-6must be placed after the radicand. However, the termination indicator must not be used when the radical sign occurs without a radicand, or when the vinculum is not shown in print.

    2. The spacing before and after a radical is subject to the spacing rules for the signs preceding or following the radical. In addition, no space should be left between a radical and a letter, a numeral, a fraction, a sign of grouping, a braille indicator, or another radical when these items are unspaced in print and belong to the same expression.

    3. When a radical has an index, the index-of-indicatordots 1-2-6 and the index of the radical must precede the radical sign.
